BILLA HOUSE

Private Residence

Rajkot

2024

Nestled in the heart of the urban city, this east-facing residence for a family of six sits on a compact 18’ x 55’ plot with an existing Billa tree at the left corner.

The design revolves around a central cut-out that functions as a skylight, bringing natural light deep into the home and creating a bright, open atmosphere throughout the day. Beneath it, we designed a freestanding cantilevered space, so when it opens up, natural light reaches even the three of the four bedrooms.

We chose not to remove the existing Billa tree. Instead, we let it become part of the design acting as a natural screen, softening the light, and giving the building a calm, living backdrop.

The house and the tree now complement each other beautifully one built, one grown  both shaping the space together. For us, the skylight isn’t just about bringing in light. It’s a bridge between inside and outside, where light changes through the day, shadows move gently, and nature becomes part of daily life.

This design creates a deep connection between the natural world and the built environment, making the architecture feel truly alive.
